Roy and Sue Smith
Both Roy and Sue grew up in South Central
Illinois, Watson and Effingham for those familiar
with the area.  Roy's interest in minerals began
while attending the University of Colorado on a
football scholarship.  This eventually led him to
the University of Missouri where he graduated
with a degree in geology.  As the job outlook in
the early 60's was slim for geology graduates,
Roy shifted gears and attended the Missouri
School of Mines.  While there he earned two
degrees in Metallurgical Engineering (this helps
explain his love of ugly black sulfide minerals)
.
Roy retired in 2003 after working 38 years in the
metals and powder metallurgy industry.

Many trips back to Southern Illinois generated a
sizable collection of material from this region.
Many of which are listed on this site.
